“Quality Before Quantity”

Aircastle Standard Poodles

The Poodles

Aircastle is a breeding kennel of world class Standard Poodles.  To date, we have champions in both the USA and South Africa.  Primarily we show in AKC, UKC, and the International Shows.  Our dogs compete in Conformation, Obedience, Agility, Rally-O, and work as Therapy Dogs.  Occasionally puppies are donated as service dogs, and all are beloved companions.  Our aim is to produce the highest quality, not to feed the marketplace with pets.

Except for size, “A Poodle is a Poodle”.  There are only three varieties, the Standard, Miniature, and the Toy.  Standard Poodles are those over 15 inches in height, and the only variety we breed.

The AKC Poodle Standard

What exactly is a Standard Poodle?  Each breed has a written ideal that exemplifies the attributes that make them what they are.  When dogs are judged, they are not competing against one another, but rather, against the written standard for their breed.  The one that is closest to that ideal is deemed to be the winner.  When a dog has achieved enough of these wins, they earn the title “Campion”.

The UKC Standard Poodles Standard

Though this ideal may differ slightly from the AKC, the basic template is the same.  To help judges gain insight on this magnificent breed, Aircastle Presentations created a PowerPoint presentation that was presented at the UKC Judges seminar in March of 2008.  You’re welcome to request a copy of it in PDF format.

The Poodle Club of America (PCA)

In the AKC, each breed has an associated “parent club” to define the type and nature of the breed.  For the Doberman Pinscher, the DPCA is that parent club, and the guardian of the Doberman breed standard.

The Poodle History Project

What is a Poodle?  Did you know that this amazing breed has done just about everything from being a family companion to serving with honor on the frontline of battle.  Originally a hunting retriever, the Poodle has been one of the most versatile members of the Canine genus.  The Poodle History Project showcases this truly amazing and wonderful breed.
